Facebook’s struggle with abusive behavior today looks very similar to Microsoft’s struggles with malware: people take advantage of an open platform.
As an answer Facebook created an Oversight Board of independent directors that review specific cases, establish guidelines and advance policy around content moderation, signifying Facebook’s commitment to the cause.
A platform that clearly establishes the authority of the board, its independence while still feeling accessible to the Facebook community.
What has been described as a “Supreme Court of the Internet,” this board will eventually consist of 40 global and diverse members. The board members will be Constitutional scholars, leading free speech experts, Nobel Laureates, as well as the former Prime Minister of Denmark, and the former editor of The Guardian.
This project answers their needs with a mobile-first, Case Management System the board would use to select cases, deliberate and render decisions on high profile issues across Facebook, Instagram and future Facebook platforms. This new platform would integrate directly with Facebook’s CMS and launched in 20+ languages, meeting global accessible around the world
